The PTE Writing module will test an individual’s academic English writing skills. The time given for this section (along with speaking) is 77-93 minutes.
For assessment, your skills will be tested by your ability to produce high quality written answers to the questions posed.
The Writing section is integrated with the Speaking module. In other words, it does not have any separate section or time. Once you are done with the Speaking module, clicking on the next button will ask you to take the Writing test.
The writing test assesses your writing skills in terms of how good you are in grammar, formatting sentences, and sticking to the topic given. You will be judged on the quality of your writing.
|Task||Task Size||Time Allocated|
|You need to summarize the passage in one sentence.||2/3 Items with text up to 300 words||10 Minutes|
|You need to write an essay on a given topic between 200 and 300 words.||1/2 Items with 2-3 sentences each||20 minutes|
Tips for Part 1: Summarize the written text
The total ‘word count’ of your response will be displayed at the bottom of the text box. Be sure to include the main points from the given paragraphs to make your summary rich and precise. You will also have a choice to cut, copy, or paste the text, so be sure to take advantage of these to save time.
Tips for Part 1: Write an essay
Here as well, the total ‘word count’ of your response will be displayed at the bottom of the text box. You should aim to keep the word count between 200 and 300, else it’ll attract penalty and you’ll score less. You should remain neutral in writing on any topic and avoid repeating the words or sentences.
You will also have a choice to cut, copy, or paste the text, so be sure to take advantage of these to save time.
